Bobotie (South African spiced mince bake)
Curried beef mince baked under a golden egg custard, with sweet raisins and rice.

Ingredients
- 130 g Lean beef mince (5%)
- ½ onion Onion
- 20 g Raisins
- ½ slice Wholegrain bread
- 1 egg Eggs
- 50 ml Milk (semi-skimmed)
- 1½ tsp Curry powder
- ¼ tsp Turmeric
- ½ tbsp Sunflower oil
- 40 g Basmati rice
- 1 clove Garlic
- ¼ tsp Salt
- ½ tsp Black pepper
Method
- Simmer the rice in salted water for 12 minutes until tender.
- Fry the onion and garlic in the oil for 5 minutes, add the beef and brown for 6 minutes, breaking it up.
- Stir in the curry powder, turmeric, raisins and soaked bread, season and spoon into a small ovenproof dish.
- Beat the egg with the remaining milk and pour over the top, then bake at 180C for 20 minutes until set and golden.
- Serve with the rice.
