Sauerbraten (German braised beef)
Tangy slow-braised beef in a sweet-sour gravy with carrot and potato.

Ingredients
- 150 g Stewing beef
- ¾ onion Onion
- ¾ carrot Carrots
- 150 g Potatoes
- 1 tbsp Vinegar
- ½ tbsp Sunflower oil
- 1¼ tsp Sugar
- ½ tsp Cinnamon
- 100 ml Vegetable stock
- ¼ tsp Salt
- ½ tsp Black pepper
Method
- Brown the beef in the oil for 5 minutes, then remove and set aside.
- Fry the onion and carrot in the same pan for 6 minutes, then return the beef with the vinegar, sugar, cinnamon and stock.
- Cover and simmer for 35 minutes until the beef is tender.
- Add the potato and simmer for a further 15 minutes until tender, season and serve.
