Andhra tomato pappu
Toor dal simmered soft with juicy tomato and tamarind, a simple everyday Andhra dal, no onion needed.

Ingredients
- 50 g Basmati rice
- 50 g Toor dal
- ¾ tomato Tomatoes
- 1 tsp Tamarind paste
- ½ chilli Green chillies
- ¼ tsp Mustard seeds
- 2 g Curry leaves
- ½ tbsp Sunflower oil
- ¼ tsp Turmeric
- ¼ tsp Salt
Method
- Cook the rice until tender; set aside.
- Simmer the toor dal with the tomato and turmeric for 18 minutes until soft, then mash lightly.
- Stir in the tamarind and green chilli, and simmer 5 minutes.
- Heat the oil, splutter mustard seeds and curry leaves, and stir into the dal.
- Season with salt and serve with the rice.
